Search Homes in the Area

San Mateo offers an incredible combination of convenience, variety, and quality of life. It’s one of the larger cities on the Peninsula, so every neighborhood has its own personality. You can find everything from charming tree-lined streets and historic homes to newer condos, modern townhomes, and hillside properties with beautiful Bay views.

Downtown San Mateo is one of the best downtown areas on the Peninsula. It’s highly walkable and filled with excellent restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and everyday conveniences. Central Park is right in the middle of it all, with its playground, tennis courts, Japanese Garden, and open green spaces. Hillsdale Shopping Center and the surrounding area offer even more dining, shopping, and entertainment.

Families have access to a wide range of schools, parks, sports leagues, camps, and activities. There are plenty of opportunities for soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, swimming, dance, music, and much more. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy nearby trails and open spaces, including Sawyer Camp Trail, Laurelwood Park, and Sugarloaf Mountain.

San Mateo is also exceptionally well located. It has multiple Caltrain stations, convenient access to both Highway 101 and Interstate 280, and is only a short drive from San Francisco International Airport. It works especially well for people who want a true city with plenty to do while still enjoying the community, neighborhoods, and lifestyle of the Peninsula.
